Today started off later than most days, not having to quickly rush off to one of the villages or school at 7:30. Everyone woke up at 8 to eat our final breakfast at the Rondo Resort before heading out to Dea's Garden. No one was really looking forward to the long 5 hour van ride ahead of us and we all hoped it would go by quickly. After a quick 3 and a half hours we arrived in Eldoret where one of our van drivers, Moses, lives. Our other van driver George was able to call one of his friends to get him to open up his store to us. Everyone was able to pick out lots of souvenirs to bring back to their family and friends and almost everyone was able to bargain down the price of their items with the shop owner. Kieran was even able to pick out a very snazzy belt for himself for only 3,500 shillings. We then all piled back into the vans all wondering how close to Dea's we were. We then found out that we had to take a pretty big detour out of our trip because of an accident, and it was going to take an extra 3 hours to get to our destination. We passed the time by jamming to some music and taking pictures of the outstanding scenery. Part of our drive took us through forests of pine trees that looked like Maine. Then we drove for a while along the top of a ridge where we could see the Rift Valley below. Along the side of the road, women were selling their potatoes and other vegetables. They stacked the potatoes in neat pyramids. Yet, when 3 hour mark came around we were still no where near Dea's Garden. "Probably only another hour," we were told by our driver Moses. We drove for another two hours before taking a quick stop at a gas station to go to the bathroom and stretch our legs. We all figured it couldn't be much longer seeing as our 5 hour van drive had now taken over 8 hours. After another two brutally slow hours we finally arrived at Dea's Garden where we were very kindly greater by the owner, Dea. We quickly looked around at the amazingly beautiful resort before sitting down to a dinner, everyone starving after our never-ending van ride. After dinner we all settled in, everyone exhausted from our grand total of ten hours of driving. Tomorrow we'll post pictures of these cool bed and breakfast and of the animals we hope to see in and around Lake Naivasha. (written by Jake)
